June 2013
At last the everything is in place - the weather, the materials and the people to complete the job. The base and the path are completed. 8th March The "glass" panels have now been fitted, so it provides shelter from the wind and the rain. (But still rather soggy underfoot. That'll be fixed as soon as possible). 27th January The stainless steel frames have been fitted to the trunks and we will soon be ready to measure up for the glass. 20th January 2013. The cold weather has stopped our trusty band of volunteers making any progress. They have designed the system for mounting the glass panels, but have not been able attach it yet. Once the weather warms up, it will be done, the areas can be measured up and the glass fitted. 18th Nov. Day 5. The roof is now completely finished, in a rather pleasing shade of green that blends in with it's surroundings. There still much more to do (toughened glass panels, maybe some seating and adding a non-slip surface) which we expect to do after the Christmas Break - and we would welcome anyone that has a spare hour or two at the weekend to come and lend a hand. 11th Nov: Day 4. The roof had a layer of glass-fibre applied to make it much more robust and waterproof, and the insides were given a coat of black paint. 14th Oct: Day 3. After a frosty start the volunteers completed the construction of the roof and have made it "weather-proof". A good day's work until they can come back and properly finish it, and then add the sides and seating - but at least it can used now to give shelter from the rain. 7th Oct: Day 2. Construction continues with some of the roof in place already. 30th Sept: Day 1. Construction has started with the uprights (tree trunks) now buried some 2ft (60cm) into the ground with the roof joists attached to them. 21st Aug: Planning permission has been granted which is really great news. Over the past few years there has been a lot of discussion around the provision of a bus shelter within Higher Denham. The CA has heard from a number of residents that they support the idea as long as it is in keeping with the local surroundings and is sited appropriately. The CA completely understand and respect both points, and feel very strongly that this approach would be so much more suitable than the "standard issue brick pillbox" that we would otherwise have to put up with. The idea of the Shelter has evolved somewhat in that it will be used not just as a bus shelter but also for the children waiting for their daily school transport and will complement the residents’ communal area for use at events such as Open Gardens. The structure the CA are proposing is a very open, rustic design similar to one sited in Denham Country Park but on a smaller scale. Thank you to those of you that sent your comments on this type of structure and if you haven't commented you can do so by email at [email protected] or by telephone to Dave Ward on 07870 629114 or through the contact us page on this website. We look forward to hearing your views. |
